Ellen Bell manages the Redefining Energy Efficiency Project. By working with commercial office buildings and other partners in Chicago, the project develops new approaches that value efficiency, advanced energy management, and existing and emerging technologies as a source of revenue, as well as helps to build new markets where efficiency measures will be readily adopted. By harnessing the power of markets, choice, and incentives, Ellen helps to unlock the economic, health, and environmental advantages of energy efficiency.

Boyle, LEED GA, is the Director of Corporate Sustainability at Sloan Valve Company with 20 years of environmental and sustainability experience. He is responsible for creating and implementing Sloan’s global sustainability programs and educates local and national architecture, design and engineering firms on water stewardship and product transparency. He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Sustainability, sits on USGBC’s Water Efficiency Technical Advisory Group (WETAG) and is currently on the Executive Committee of the USGBC Illinois Chapter Board of Directors.

Julia DeRosi,
U.S. General Service Adminstration
Julia De Rosi is responsible for overseeing GSA’s real estate strategy for federal properties and leased assets in the Midwest. Leading a group of high performing individuals in the Design and Construction Project Delivery Program, she manages a $1.5B program. She is responsible for innovative solutions to design, construction delivery and workplace strategies across GSA’s portfolio of federal agencies.

She is active in public and professional communities, participating and speaking at FBI, NASA, CURT, CMAA, CII and COAA. Julia is LEED AP O&M and currently serves on USGBC’s Community Engagement Committee, leading numerous Green Apple Days of Service. She volunteered in Hurricane Katrina’s rebuilding efforts and has a strong belief in both community and sustainability. She leads with that mission in mind.

She holds her MBA from Northwestern University- Kellogg’s School of Management and BBA from Loyola University Chicago. Ms. De Rosi currently resides with her family in Chicago, Illinois.

Farr Associates Architecture and Urban Design, Inc.
Doug is the president of Farr Associates, a Chicago-based firm of optimistic architects and urban designers who plan and design lovable, aspirational buildings and places. The firm was named 2012 Chicago Firm of the Year by the American Institute of Architects. Under his leadership, Farr Associates has designed and certified a total of seven LEED Platinum buildings (two of which also achieve net-zero energy) and four LEED-ND Developments. A native Detroiter, Doug was the founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED-ND Core Committee and has served on the boards of urban sustainability organizations including the Congress for New Urbanism, Bioregional, EcoDistricts, and Elevate Energy. Doug is the author of Sustainable Urbanism, and has a new book, Sustainable Nation: Urban Design Patterns for the Future, coming out in late 2017.

She is an expert with the United Nations ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection. She sits on the Advisory Board for the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center and on the Industry Council for the Clean Energy Trust.

Foster-Rice practiced environmental, health, and safety law for 16 years and holds a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Rice University.

He brings robust project experience delivering distinguished sustainable project across multiple typologies and regions. He currently manages the technical components of ComEd’s Affordable Housing NC Program and provides leadership for Seventhwave’s high-performance building consulting practice.

Underpinning his technical background and creative drive is a strong consideration to the challenges faced by all stakeholders when working towards an integrated solution. Regularly contributing to the industry, Connor has presented for conferences, provided studio critiques, developed AIA 2030 workshops, and is an active member in the USGBC Illinois Community Engagement Committee, Chicago Energy Benchmarking working group, and BIT.

Notable project accolades include: AIA COTE Top Ten Awards, LEED Gold and Platinum ratings, and net zero energy verification. Connor has also taught at the Wentworth Institute of Technology and California Academy of Art University on topics ranging from building management to climatic design principles.

His career began at A. Finkl & Sons more than 15 years ago. He then progressed through positions with increasing levels of responsibility at Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in the fields of engineering, quality control, independent third party testing & certification. As an early advocate of sustainability, Rossen pioneered and supported the inception of UL Environment. Rossen is presently the Director at Masonite, leading the development of various National Code & Standards.

He is passionate about science & technology, advancing public safety and sustainability for future generations. Rossen enjoys visiting National Parks, trailing Chicagoland’s Forest Preserves by bicycle and spending time with his wife and two children in their hometown of Northbrook, IL.

An architect by trade, Mike Stopka’s 17 year career trajectory has taken him to an interdisciplinary place, where measurable impact and human-centered design are of paramount importance. Mike plans to leverage his broad corporate, academic and non-profit experience and network for the USGBC-IL.

Currently, Mike runs MIST, a sustainable design, education and strategy consultancy, and holds a position at non-profit Delta Institute. Previously, he was Director of Sustainability at the University of Chicago and founded the sustainability department at the design firm, SCB. Mike’s education includes architecture (Illinois, Clemson) and business (UChicago Booth). He teaches and advises industry, institutional and civic groups, but his favorite pastime is fishing with his wife and 3 daughters.

He became a LEED AP in 2003 and has been active at all levels in the USGBC since then. He strongly believes in the current direction of the organization and the urgency of its mission and he would be honored to serve a final term on the board.

She has shared her perspective on sustainable design approaches, presenting case studies and building tours to illustrate pragmatic and cost-effective solutions to improving building performance. Megan has served on USGBC Illinois Chapter’s Board of Directors since 2016, and is seeking another term to continue promoting and implementing the goals of the council’s Epic Challenge initiative.
