About the Symposium

This symposium for Illinois K-12 schools is an opportunity to exchange ideas with symposium participants such as school and district administrators, regional superintendents, school board members, facilities managers and custodial staff, teachers, school health practitioners, facility planners and architects, school-related non-profits and agencies, and high school student environmental leaders.

Speakers and workshops will cover topics such as sustainable school facility planning and siting, green facilities management, sustainable renovation and construction, energy efficiency and conservation, environmental education and service learning, water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable school transportation.

1 Hour Break-Out Sessions are organized by the three Pillars of the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools program:

  • Pillar I: Reducing environmental impact and costs, including waste, water, energy use and alternative transportation;
  • Pillar II: Improving the health and wellness of students and staff, covering environmental health and nutrition and fitness; and
  • Pillar III: Providing effective sustainability education, and robust environmental education that engages STEM, civic skills and green career pathways.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:

  • Earn up to 4.0 continuing education hours for your LEED or AIA professional credentials for attending
  • CPS teachers can earn up to 6.0 CPDUs for attending.  Click here for instructions on how to enroll to earn your credits.  Must be completed prior to this event.
