Learn About our New Strategic Plan
Our 10th Anniversary marks the launch of a new strategic plan for USGBC-Illinois that will guide our work over the next three years. The strategic plan will be finalized by the end of the first quarter of 2012 and we encourage you to check back then for additional information. For, now please review our progress below, which includes a revised mission and vision statement and key external and internal goals for the next three years. Mission Statement (as approved at the October 20, 2011 Board of Directors meeting):
“The U.S. Green Building Council – Illinois Chapter is a nonprofit membership driven organization that advances buildings and communities that are sustainable, prosperous and healthy. We achieve this through education, advocacy, and collaboration.”
Vision Statement (as adopted at the December 15, 2011 Board of Directors meeting):
“Sustainable and responsible buildings and communities that enhance the quality of life for Illinois’ citizens and future generations.”
Overarching Strategies (as determined at the October 20, 2011 Board of Directors meeting):

External Goals
1. Green Building Code(s) or Standard(s) in Illinois
2. Green Building Research
3. Green and Healthy Schools
4. Existing Buildings and Building Retrofits
5. Green and Healthy Homes
Internal Goals
1. Develop a clear business plan
2. Improve internal and external communications
3. Reduce the number of programs in order to re-tool and focus on bigger initiatives and other ways to meet the mission
4. Develop broad-based funding and support plan focusing on a diversity of funding sources
5. Evaluate and revise organizational capacity and structure (e.g. build capacity at branch level)
Next Steps:
• Develop 3-5 specific objectives (tactics) to achieve each stated goal with the assistance of Board of Directors, Committee and Branch leaders, staff, and, where applicable, external stakeholders.
• Develop metrics for measuring achievement of goals and objectives.
• Develop dashboard for comprehensively tracking plan achievements.
• Develop timeline for plan and goal completion.
• Write final strategic plan.
• Submit to Board for approval.
• Disseminate to committees, branches, and members.
• Publish strategic plan.
• Disseminate to external stakeholders.
• Begin plan implementation.
• Conduct regular plan reviews and status reports and submit to Chapter leaders.
